I arrived in New Orleans in torrential rain. It was Spring of 2006 and the city was still a disaster zone merely half a year after hurricane Katrina. My drive into town was a scary scene of destruction and despair, I initially had mixed feelings about staying here for five months but oh was I wrong. The rain cleared and I was presented with what I can only describe as one of the most magical places I have ever visited. I was lucky enough to stay throughout Mardi Gras, Jazzfest and French Quarter Fest, made amazing friends, listened to unbelievable music, had a girlfriend with a Southern drawl and was inspired on daily basis.

Travel and discovery is always exciting but there are some places that capture your soul. Some places charm you so much that even years later you will still dream about an alternate reality where you settled down and lived your life in this place. Louisiana was one of those experiences for me. Beautiful, rough, serene, wild, a mix of feelings but full of character. Everything's here: some of the nicest and weirdest people you’ll ever meet and some of the best foods you’ll ever eat. NOLA stole my heart and will always be a place I warmly recommend to any US traveler. The pictures shared here were taken on a Kodak Max 800 Gt-4 film that I found in a local drugstore and at one point unfortunately opened the camera with the film still inside. But obviously a Lomography fan will take such a situation with interest and is excited to see the results.
