Lomographers Throughout the Years: Adi_Totp

21

Seasons may change but never one's passion for shooting on analogue. Lomographer Adi Prakarsa, @adi_totp, who celebrated his 10th year in the Lomography community last month, is a proof of that. From shooting on a Fisheye No. 2, his first ever Lomo camera, to amassing an enviable camera collection, his relentless dedication is a showcase of the joy film photography brings.

Name: Adi Prakarsa
Username: @adi_totp
Year when you joined Lomography: 2007
What keeps you busy now: I'm currently running a business and taking photographs as usual.

Let's do a backtrack: How did you discover Lomography?

In 2007, I was still studying for my bachelor's degree at a university and my friends were into Lomography and introduced me to the world of it. Since then I've been taking a lot of photographs. Actually, this year (2017), I'm celebrating my 10th anniversary of Lomography. I joined Lomography on July 2007, so happy Lomography anniversary to me! It's been a great 10 years for me personally and I thank you Lomography for this. It's been a journey and I feel grateful for all of this.

What was your first Lomography camera?

Lomograhy Fisheye No.2 and I keep it safely in my camera shelf until now. How can I resist a Fisheye No.2 back then?! It brings me a lot of joy and excitement! After Fisheye No.2, I collected a number of Lomography cameras also. Yes, shooting makes me happy, I always said that statement on every interview, both online and offline.

What's your fondest Lomography moment?

There's too many! 10 years is a long time but my fondest Lomography moment is and always be: meeting Lomography friends! I get to know many people (and now I call them friends!) through the Lomography website. In real life, I met many many people who also love Lomography and we usually go on a photo walk together or hang out and talk about almost everything! To experience that kind of moment, it is something to be grateful for. I mean to be honest, I have many friends that I met through Lomography and we're now best friend in real life. That's why it is THE Lomography moment.

Could you share some of your earliest Lomography shots?

Of course! Here are some of my earliest Fisheye No.2 shots!

Who were your Lomography friends back then?

My friends who introduced to the world of Lomography: Panji (@panjihardjakaprabon) and Marko, then as far as I can remember Denis (@setiawandenis) and Yoga (@istionojr). Some of them I knew because we're basically studying in the same university and because we're all in the Lomographic Society Bandung so I knew a lot of people because I joined the community in Bandung.

What advice would you give newcomers (to the Lomography community)?

To go out and shoot! That's my best advice, really. The best camera is the one you took with everywhere you go. To have fun and to document what interests you personally. From there you can discover yourself. I mean, I've been here for 10 years and counting, shooting endlessly. It's about getting yourself lost in multiple genres of photography, discovering and rediscovering yourself, reinventing both your photography style and your photographic sense. I work both in black and white AND color photography, so don't limit yourself! Just keep shooting and enjoy the process of it.

What does Lomography mean to you?

Lomography to me is about documenting life, what's around me and what's dear to me. Maybe I'm not the same person, in a creative sense, as I am 10 years ago but people change, I changed (a lot) during those years. One thing for sure is my passion for shooting didn't change at all, as I mentioned many times before that "shooting makes me happy". Yes, just like that.
