Introducing – Bruna aka @bwretzky
13 Share TweetBrunam, aka @bwretzky, originally grew up in Jaú, a small town in the countryside of São Paulo in Brazil. The 29-year-old came to Frankfurt in Germany to further her education as a Chemist and start a job in Research. Here she tells us about her journey with Photography and her newly found love for analogue Photography.
Tell us about your journey with photography, especially analogue photography:
When I was just a teenage girl and first got into college, before I changed to the career path I’m following currently, my first degree was in graphic design and I remember being particularly excited about the photography 101 course we were going to have. I soon got a digital SLR I’ve used for work and I also photographed as a hobby for a few years before losing that passion along with most of my will to live when my soul died. Recently I’ve tried to get back to photography because I fondly remember experimenting with my digital camera. I tried going to different places to shoot and getting new gear, but what got me truly interested in photography again was going analogue.
I’ve messed with instant photography for the past couple of years, but I never really got the hang of it. So I got what I consider my first film camera while browsing instant cameras and film on Lomography Deutschland’s amazon shop in early October 2019. It was a Sprocket Rocket and I got it because, honestly, the name is cool. It reminds me of my favorite band and one of their songs, I still pronounce it as SP rocket rocket in my head, and probably always will. That’s what caught my attention, I’m not gonna lie. It also looks cool, so there I went. I got it without even being sure of what I was going to do with it. Since then, I’ve been searching for analogue photography related info around the internet and playing around with the multiple cameras I dug on eBay because I have no self control.
How did you find Lomography? What do you think about the Community?
I found lomography when I started shooting digital, probably over ten years ago. I even created my account on the website many years ago, but only started using it now. Back then I was a broke student living in Brazil, and it was not really possible for me to try anything with film. As a slightly less broke student living in Germany, it got much more accessible and realistic.
I am very happy to be a part of the community. Even though it is well established and filled with amazing artists, I don’t feel threatened or am put off by it. The community is welcoming, encouraging and inspiring.
Do you have a favourite Picture on your LomoHome?
This is some wisteria seen from bellow, taken with my Canon Av-1 and a 50mm 1.8 on LomoChrome Purple. It’s one of my favorite pictures I’ve ever taken, I absolutely love it’s colors.
What's your favourite Camera/Film?
I mostly use my Canon AV-1 with a 50mm 1.8 lens, aperture priority has always been my jam. I prefer to use SLRs because they fit my style better, my photos have always been some detail isolated with a rather shallow depth of field (as seen on my very old Flickr page I almost forgot I had). So far I’ve been trying different things with film, but I can already see myself going back to that little by little.
There is a lot to dig around the film department, so far my favorites are LomoChrome purple and lady grey, they haven’t failed to astonish me every time I use them.
Where do you get your inspiration? Can you tell us a bit about your creative process?
I’ve been getting a lot of inspiration from nature lately. I grew up in a very rural area and Frankfurt is not exactly much like that, so I like to go to the residential areas of the neighborhoods in the outskirts of the city and shoot anything that drags my attention. I grab my camera and walk around searching the floor, bushes, doors and trees like I lost my wallet or something.
Lastly, do you have some inspirational words/tips you want to give our readers?
Look around like you lost something and you may actually find something nice.
Thank you for sharing your Pictures and your story with us Bruna! Check out her LomoHome and Instagram and leave some love!
