LomoGuru of the Week: Weidong
21 33 Share TweetWith almost three thousand Lomography friends, I’m pretty sure that you are aware of him. Well, could be him or his photogenic cat!
His name is Simone or more commonly known as weidong. A member of our Community for around two to three years, he is able to share his stunning snaps to us through his LomoHome! He has a really adorable cat and knowing this cat-loving and film-loving world of ours, this fact sure took our hearts away! But aside from this, there sure are more to know about this mister from Italy. Time to read our interview below as he is this week’s LomoGuru!
Name: Simone Volpi
Lomography Username: weidong
Location: Recanati, Italy
Number of years as a Lomographer: 3
Number of years in the Community: A couple of years.
Tell us something about yourself… What do you do for a living? What are your main interests?
After living for three years in China, I went back here in Italy, used my contacts to start a kind of trading [business] and it works!
Tell us something about your LomoHome’s name.
Weidong is my Chinese name given to me when I was in the country. This one guy called me this name and I liked it so much.
Share to us your most memorable experience in the Lomographic Community.
I have met many people thanks to Lomography! I always keep in touch and remain friendly. I have met cryboy, goonies, elettroshock, and many more! I was in Naples during Easter and in Sicily during Summer 2012 and I think this is the most positive experience that Lomography has gave me.
Do you think you’ll still be taking Lomographs in the next 5 years? Why?
Of course I’ll still do! Why? Because I like and want to be part of this wonderful world!
What is your favorite Lomo camera and why? Do you have any memorable experiences while using this camera?
My best Lomographic camera is without any doubt the Lubitel 166+. I think it is the most complete and professional camera done. It takes really great pictures! I have many popular Lubitel photos and this explains a lot.
Please share your most favourite Lomographic photo that you took and explain why.
I have many favourites but this one I like the most. It’s because of the grain of the film and because the subject at the mirror gave me a strange sensation. I really really love this photo!
What’s the best Lomographic or photography advice you think you have given?
Probably the advices on how to do double exposures since many people ask me about this: “How did you do this? How did you do that?” So I think this is my main advice.
If there’s one song or movie that best describes your Lomo life, what is that and why?
Rico Vacilon sung by Karl Zero.
This song describes my Lomo life because it is carefree and funny. Lately, I’ve been shooting less but because I love autumn and winter! So soon you will see many uploads in my LomoHome!
Is there any advice you can give to new analogue shooters?
Don’t demoralize at first step, go on and you will see the results! I remember I wasted a dozen of film before I understood how to shoot. Analogue photos are really romantic and satisfactory so don’t lose this opportunity!!
