An abortive lens/film combo test. Ive had this crazy carl zeiss jennar 180 2.8 'olympic' lens for a while and never really had a good reason to test it properly. The lens was nicknamed the olympic lens because it was designed for the 1936 berlin olympics although my example isn't as old as that. What intrigues me is that from my research it was never designed with a nikon f mount and yet my example clearly a very well designed adaptor fitted to it, can anyone shed some light on this? I can't find any info from the internet. When it came into my possession all of the aperture blades were twisted and mangled up so i stripped the lens down to see if i could fix it. Sadly it was beyond my capabilities so i carefully removed and saved them and now the lens sports a fixed aperture of f 2.8 ! So i loaded my nikon f2 up with some kodak XX and took my daughter out for a portrait session to see what bokeh i could coax from this beast of a lens. Sadly the shots you see are all that came out, i took her to the local gardens where the trees are all in blossom. None of these shots came out just blanks, Ive had problems with the f2 before but never so many shots on a roll. The one plus point is that I've finally found a good way to shoot double x. The shot of the lens was taken with the nikon f2 and a 50mm f2 and i think the contrast and tones are amazing! Kodak 5222 XX @iso250 rodinal 1+50 10 minutes.

Agree with @lomodesbro It is an oldie, but goodie. I don't know that much about photographic equipment, even less about repairing such. I only know that some Nikon lenses are not that interchangeable though they may mount.

@lomodesbro Thanks Des, do you know I almost enjoy writing as much as the photography, never thought I'd say that! G'day mate!

@neufotomacher @lomodesbro it's probably from the mid 50s to early 60s so it may pre date the Nikon f mount. I can only assume that someone had an adaptor made so it could be fitted to their Nikon. I bought it from an old pro together with a black Nikon f body, more lenses and stacks of other gear. He couldn't shed any light on it other than he'd bought it 2nd hand and used it for portraiture.
