I was saddened to recently learn that the last Howard Johnson's restaurant in the U.S. closed. At its peak, Howard Johnson's had over 1,000 restaurants in the U.S. When we were kids, my parents drove us from Brooklyn to Florida and back each summer on a road trip. We would always stop at a Howard Johnson's for dinner, swim in the pool and stay the night in the Howard Johnson's motel. My sister and I loved the Howard Johnson's Sliced Roast Turkey dinner. For dessert, the restaurants had 28 flavors of ice cream to choose from. The 35mm and 127 slides here were taken by my father at the Howard Johnson's in Vero Beach, Florida in August of 1973. The restaurant closed a long time ago but the hotel still exists.
