Medium Format and the Problem of Autumn in Southern California

4

The trouble is that I am in the worst season for any kind of photography.

Fall is the season when the leaves change — except in Southern California where things have been dead since late June. So I need to think of a place to explore and think fast. I have a roll of Ektachrome that is begging for cross-processing and some redscale to finish off.

But here, again, is the problem:

Not what you savor in a November, no?

I am open to suggestions.

But it has to be a landscape shooting? Well,i must admit,i liked your example pic.its not mandatory that there are always blooms and colours and stuff. What about some sunset shots? I could imagine that nice especially for the redscale? Having probably some skeleton plants as silhouettes?

I am a fan of plant textures and abstracts/doubles of such, you could work close in to subjects like the cacti or other interesting flora...?

@schugger @obeyhungkul @ashamanae I decided to go to a local botanic garden. Being that it is Southern California, there is almost always something in bloom. Took two rolls and mailed them off. Now they are at the mercy of the U.S. Postal Service. Next month I am going to see a display of Christmas lights (Portra 800 pushed to 3200 is the ticket). I also have a Supersampler to test. Reading the literature carefully before I start on that one.
