Today marks the 4th anniversary of my moving to Vienna. I arrived at the railway station with one small suitcase; my parents and sister arrived afterwards with a second large one. They helped me set up my room, we also had a lunch in a nearby café, but at the end of the day, they had to leave to make it to Hungary before dark. I was standing on the street watching their car disappearing at a junction, and felt as homesick as never before. Four years passed, and I made new friends, graduated from university and started a job. When I think about my existence in Vienna, I don’t describe it as “study” or “work” anymore: I simply say that I live there. I can’t say that I have fully made it my home; but there are places, people and memories here that make me feel belonging and complete.
The photo was taken at the metro station Donauinsel.
