Back at high school photography was taught as a technical subject. Typically, the same teachers that demonstrated the stubble techniques of hammering nails into wood or welding up the exhaust extractors on motor cars would educate you in the art and science of photography. I remember my Photography master, old grumble-bum Souter. And what a character he was! After he finished his lectures on shutter speeds, apertures, Olympus Trips and an Ilford FP4 (without the plus), he introduced the class to the rules of composition. I did quite well at photography at a technical / darkroom level. I could expose process and print beautifully, but I sucked miserably at composition. When submitting my photographic compositions for assessment, Souter, with his thick Australian accent would shout, ‘That looks like something you would find at the bottom of the Cocky’s [Cockatoo] cage!’ and often hurling a Patterson tank at me to reinforce the statement! A rather creative and somewhat articulate way to describe my work as ‘$hit’. Thankfully, I was far more competent at Auto Mechanics and managed to pass my technical studies class.
Was a little bit wet this day but I decided to go out anyway. Glad I did seeing as this turned out nice and moody. Things were still a bit brown seeing as it was the end of the summer.
Old factorybuilding, seaside Rijeka, collage, from 2014. Very beautiful and old building, now to partly deserted and housing some workshops. Not sure which camera I used, but I think it was an Olympus XA. Didnt try to make collage before, but it was quite fun. Probably, even better to make it physically.
